Jessica's Style

"I just can't accept I'm attracted to [fill in the blank]. Am I normal?" "I've lost my desire for sex, even though I love my partner and am still attracted to them, I just find it exhausting to be sexual." "I know what I'm doing is wrong and hurtful, but I just can't control it when it happens. How can I stop this?" These are only a few examples of the struggles expressed by many clients, seeking a place of understanding, craving change and improvement, finding a sense of acceptance and peace with themselves, wanting acceptance.

My work with my clients is to help them rediscover themselves, bring back passion to their lives, and understand more of the reasons for their struggles, so they are more equipped to reclaim their happinessI identify myself as a sex-positive therapist, meaning I do not come from a place of judgement of sexual behaviors, expressions, orientations, or beliefs. I believe everyone has the personal right to satisfying, pleasurable, and self-defined sexuality. My beliefs of sexual health align with the World Health Organization's definition of the six principles of sexual health:

  • Consent

  • Non-Exploitative

  • Honest

  • Shared Values

  • Protected from STI, HIV, and Unwanted Pregnancy

  • Pleasure

I will be the first to tell you that my professional therapeutic style, while influenced by aspects of therapeutic theories of Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, Sex Positive approaches (among others), has always been working from a client-focused, sex-positive and strength-based approach. Bad jokes, analogies and metaphors galore are incorporated within my style, as I believe it is important to help others feels as comfortable as possible to share parts of their life with me that they may have never told another person about. I find my work with my clients a humbling opportunity to assist in the best way I  am able to work through life's difficulties, increase satisfaction, and enhance their sexuality as much as possible. I look forward to walking with my clients through their struggles, meeting them here they are, and helping them get to where they wish to be.
